Success Stories
Hear from our Alumni and their success from joining MULS.
Hafsah Nawaz Allen & Overy Future Trainee
A&O is a standout law firm which goes beyond your notion of a “traditional” law firm. I applied for a direct TC with the firm but my experiences in-office through working with them as a Brand Ambassador meant that I got a true feel for A&O’s progressive, fast-paced and collegiate culture.
Through the assessment process and my experiences, I was able to truly understand what can be expected of a trainee at A&O- high-quality work, a degree of responsibility, opportunity to engage in meaningful pro-bono, and connection to an international network of professionals.
heidi drinnan MULS Vice President 2021-22, DLA Piper Future Trainee solicitor
DLA Piper’s vision is to be the leading global business law firm by delivering quality and value to its clients. It is one of the largest law firms in the world, with over 90 offices in over 40 countries.
I participated in a three-week Summer Internship with DLA Piper, during which I interacted with the firm’s senior leadership, worked within two different practice groups, completed professional skills training, and attended networking events. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the firm’s entrepreneurial and supportive culture, and complete real legal work designed to simulate the life of a trainee solicitor.
As a future trainee, I look forward to being part of DLA Piper’s award-winning International Graduate programme, renowned for its cutting-edge training and dynamic environment.
declan larkin muls RETURNING officer 2022-23, ROPEs & gray Future Trainee solicitor
Ropes & Gray is built on a foundation of delivering a distinctive, value-added service to its clients. It is a U.S. headquartered firm with expertise in private equity and asset management work, with over 1500 lawyers in 13 different offices.
I participated in a two-week Spring Vacation Scheme with the firm, during which I sat in the private equity department. The two-week experience was invaluable in providing an insight into the firm’s distinctive operation in both the mid-cap and large-cap markets, whilst also educating schemers on its inclusive culture and true partnership model.
As a future trainee, I look forward to being a part of Ropes & Gray’s propensity to provide its trainees with day-one responsibility in its plethora of work streams, particularly its work with Leveraged Buyout, Venture Capital, and Growth Equity funds.
Connor Smith Clifford Chance Future Trainee
Clifford Chance prides itself on being the world’s pre-eminent law firm - which is at first difficult to manifest as a student. I was on CC’s award winning Spark programme in my first year at University, and it is your first opportunity to secure a training contract with the firm. This experience was invaluable. Both the cutting edge internationally focused work and diverse, interesting people I worked with informed my decision that this would be my firm of choice. As a trainee, you will be safe in the knowledge that this is one of the very few law firms where every department you sit in is leading the legal industry, and being a part of that is exhilarating.
From the moment you fill in their application form, you’ll notice Clifford Chance wants to know about you as an individual. Diversity and individuality is the life blood of the firm and is recognised as the key to any successful team. The diversity of background, ethnicity, sexuality and disability between Clifford Chance’s people is instrumental in its success as the law firm of choice for prominent clients all over the world.
I was also involved in the LIFT (Learning Internships for Future Trainees) scheme, a testament to how much Clifford Chance invests into their people to perform at their best. Working in a legal start-up as an intern, I was able to understand firsthand how business really works and what clients expect from their lawyers
